When the call went out for support for the Campion Track & Field Team's bid for the Penn Relays, newly-elected President of the Alumni Association, Kevin Chin-Shue, along with members of the Play Straight Alumni Team jumped to help and together with the fundraising efforts of Coach Phillpotts-Brown made it possible for the team to fly out for the prestigious event.
Captain of the Team, Damon McLean, accepted the donation of over J$120,000 at assembly from Julian Robinson and Larry Crichton. Damon, who is heading to Princeton this September, received the gold medal in the triple jump and the bronze in the long jump at Champs 2010 bringing Campion to 17th place out of over 119 schools. (2nd former Doneike Daniels also medalled with a silver in the high jump which put us in 20th place out of 118 girls schools.) Also competed at Penn was the 4x400 and 4x800 teams comprised of: Rouaj Shirley, Joel Beaufort, Davian R... Read more » |

Damon was successful in securing the silver medal with a jump of 15.43. We suffered similar misfortune today in the 4x400m. At exactly the same spot on the track, our 2nd leg runner - Emerson - was spiked by a runner moving out of the pack. Emerson almost fell, which made it difficult for him to continue; but he managed to muster up enough strength to get the baton to his teammate. This disruption resulted in a 3:27.92 for the team. Official results can be found at http://pennrelaysonline.com/ I would like to say a special thanks... Read more » |
From all accounts, the Toll Day went well
with the collection of JA$141,000. This was used to make a further
payment to the flight tickets. |
All efforts are now geared towards the 2010
Penn Relays to be held from April 22 - 24. |

The results are:
After the athletes take Easter off for well needed rest, they will shift their focus to the 2010 Penn Relays to be held from April 22 - 24, 2010. |

Campion did well. Points came by order of Damon in winning the
boys open triple jump with a distance of 15.28m and
Donieke placing 2nd (tied on height, but deferred to 2nd based on the
tie-breaker of number of jumps) in the girls class 4 high jump with a
height of 1.60m. Dena Farquharson placed
out of the points - 18th - in the girls class 1 high jump finals with a
height of 1.45m. The medal jumps were (for the most part) without the
guidance of the coaches, who were unable to gain access to the
respective athletes - officials prevented the coaches from utilizing
their field event passes. The remaining results are as follows:

Yesterday was an interesting day!
It started out with a report after the end of Day 1 of the 2010 ISSA/Grace Boys and Girls Championships that Campion was in 2nd place. See http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20100325/sports/sports1.html. However, Champs officials made a big mistake. The Champs magazine and all Marshall Area postings stated that there would only be 2 semi-final races for the boys 800m class 1. This means only 2 automatic qualifiers from the heats (5 in total), with the remaining 6 qualifying based on the next best times. Note that this is consistent with what I reported yesterday, which was consistent with the Champs results page yesterday. However, today officials stated that there would be 3 semi-final races for the boys 800m class 1. This means 4 (rather than 2) automatic qualifiers from the heats (5 in total), with the remaining 4 qualifiers based on times. Note that the Champs results page has ... Read more » |
